Dental Hygienists...
1. What is a Dental Hygienist?
Dental hygienists are primary oral health care professionals who provide clinical assessments and therapy, oral health education, and offer health promotion strategies to people of all ages.
2. Where are Dental Hygienists Educated?
Dental hygienists are educated at universities and colleges across Canada. Dental hygiene students study the following key topics: anatomy and physiology, microbiology and infection control, health promotion and disease prevention, and nutrition and health. While most dental hygienists in Canada hold a three-year diploma, many have gone on to complete bachelor’s and master’s degrees in dental hygiene, dental science, public health, and other related disciplines.
3. Are Dental Hygienists Regulated Health Professionals?
In order to practise in Canada, dental hygienists must be registered or licensed by the appropriate regulatory body. Requirements for registration vary by province or territory, but all have one goal—to protect the public. You can be confident that your registered dental hygienist has met high standards and is able to provide you with quality care.
4. How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
The frequency depends on the patient’s gum condition and individual needs. It could vary from every 3, 4 or 6 months.
5. How much does a dental cleaning cost?
We offer direct billing so we will send the claim to your insurance company according to the BCDHA guidelines. We also offer affordable services for individuals with no insurance.
6. Is it best to get my teeth cleaned prior to having the ZOOM whitening done?
Yes. If you have plaque or calculus on the surface of your teeth, this can limit the whitening gel from penetrating the enamel, preventing the treatment from working at its fullest.
7. Can I keep seeing my dentist if I'm getting my teeth cleaned by an independent Hygienist?
Absolutely, we highly recommend you visit your dentist at least once a year for checkup. If you don't have a family dentist, we will be happy to put you in touch with one.
